Yes — private jets have considerably more flexibility around passenger-supplied wine and spirits than commercial aviation. There's no TSA liquid limit, no prohibition on bringing a full bottle of wine in a carry-on, and generally no airline policy preventing you from bringing your favorite bottle on board. But there are important considerations around international travel, operator policy, and how passenger-supplied alcohol interacts with the aircraft's service.
Domestic Flights: Maximum Flexibility
For flights that depart and arrive within the United States, there's no regulatory prohibition on passengers bringing their own wine, spirits, or other alcoholic beverages onto a private jet. The practical considerations:
- Operator policy: Some operators have policies about outside alcohol being consumed on their aircraft — some welcome it, some prefer only their bar service is used, a few prohibit outside alcohol entirely. Check with your operator before bringing a significant quantity.
- Service by the crew: FAA regulations require that alcoholic beverages served on an aircraft be served by the crew — passengers can't simply serve themselves alcohol. If you're bringing your own bottles, the flight attendant should be aware and should manage the service, including monitoring for appropriate consumption.
- Storage: Bring appropriate packaging — wine should travel sealed and in insulated packaging to maintain temperature and prevent breakage. Spirits are more forgiving but should be sealed.
International Flights: Customs Rules Apply
For flights arriving in the United States from international origins, US Customs limits alcohol imports to:
- 1 liter (about 34 ounces) per person duty-free
- Additional quantities may be brought in with payment of applicable duty and taxes
For departures from the US to international destinations, the destination country's import rules apply. Different countries have very different limits — some have no limit on personal alcohol import, others are very restrictive, a few are dry (no import allowed). Your crew will know the specific rules for your destination, and it's worth checking before packing that special bottle.
When DFK Sources Your Specific Selection
Rather than navigating the logistics of transporting wine or spirits yourself, DFK can source specific selections — wine labels, spirit brands, vintages — as part of your catering order. We maintain relationships with premium wine merchants and spirits importers, and we can source most specific requests with appropriate lead time.
This is often a better solution than passenger-transported bottles: the wine arrives properly temperature-managed, without the risk of breakage in transit, with proper storage from our cellar conditions. And the operator's policy on outside alcohol doesn't apply when it's part of the official catering order.
To include specific wine or spirit sourcing in your DFK order, note it at order time. Order with DFK.
